La Asociación de Estudios Dominicanos (DSA, por sus siglas en inglés) y Eugenio María de Hostos Community College abren su matrícula para la 9na Conferencia Bienal: Crisis de la verdad, estado de emergencia, y respuestas sociales: la urgencia de los estudios dominicanos y étnicos en la hora actual—DSA2020Virtually@Hostos—que se llevará a cabo el 4 y 5 de diciembre de 2020 virtualmente a través de Hostos.
La convocatoria de propuestas DSA2020Virtually @ Hostos
atrajo a académicos, la industria y líderes de opinión que representan a 13
países, 92 universidades y 28 instituciones no académicas. El evento de dos
días está programado con más de 41 paneles distribuidos en las XVII sesiones,
incluida la sesión XIII, la plenaria, con una única oportuna de discusión con
los principales líderes de la educación superior en los Estados Unidos y la
República Dominicana sobre el desafío de sus instituciones frente a la actual
crisis de salud y más.
“Se esperan en la conferencia numerosos líderes dominicanos influyentes de Nueva York y otros lugares, dijo la presidenta interina de Hostos la Dra. Daisy Cocco De Filippis, “figuras culturales, educativas de Alemania, Argentina, Brasil, Canada, Colombia Chile, Cuba, España, Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Noruega han dicho presente y eso me dice que la gente quiere conectarse y aprender unos de otros para contribuir a la sociedad”.
Los Co-presidentes de la Asociación de Estudios Dominicanos el Dr. Silvio Torres-Saillant de la Universidad Syracuse y la decana asociada de Hostos Community College Ana García Reyes.
“Los dominicanos han producido un cuerpo de conocimiento colectivo que abarca todas las disciplinas, amplificado en todo el mundo. DSA2020 Virtually @ Hostos aseguró la participación de artistas, académicos, autores premiados, intelectuales de renombre y otros expertos en el campo de los estudios dominicanos. La junta directiva de la DSA, el profesor Torres-Saillant y yo esperamos que se una a nosotros en este histórico encuentro virtual ”, apuntó la decana García Reyes.
En calendario a participar en el DSA2020 Virtually @ Hostos incluyen la poeta y ganadora del National Book Award Elizabeth Acevedo; la autora de renombre mundial Julia Álvarez; Congresista de los Estados Unidos (NY-Distrito 13) Adriano Espaillat; la poeta, dramaturga y ensayista Scherezada “Chiqui” Vicioso; CUNY Board of Trustee, Mayra Linares; y EVP del Fondo para la Ciudad de Nueva York, Aldrin Bonilla.

The Dominican Studies Association and Eugenio María de Hostos Community College opened registration for the 9th Biennial DSA2020Virtually@Hostos conference on December 4 and 5 called, “Crisis of Truth, State of Emergency, and Social Responses: The Urgency of Dominican and Ethnic Studies in the Present Hour.”
The DSA2020Virtually@Hostos call-for-proposals drew scholars, industry, and thought leaders
representing 13 countries, 92 universities,
and 28 non-academic institutions. The two-day event is scheduled with over 41 panels spread out across XVII
sessions, including session XIII, the only plenary, a timely discussion
featuring top higher education leaders in the United States and the Dominican
Republic on the challenge of their institutions, vis-a-vis the current health
crisis and beyond.
“Numerous influential Dominican leaders from New York and elsewhere are expected at the conference,” said Interim President of Hostos Daisy Cocco De Filippis, “cultural and educational figures from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, England, Germany, Norway, the United States, and Spain have said presente and that tells me that people want to connect and learn from one another to contribute to society.”
DSA2020 Virtually@Hostos is co-chaired by Professor
Silvio Torres-Saillant, Ph.D., of Syracuse University and Hostos Associate Dean
of Community Relations Ana I. García Reyes.

This year, the DSA waves the conference fees for both participants and panelists and asks instead to consider a $30 donation to help offset the technological costs of the DSA2020 Virtually@Hostos Biennial Conference.
